Fun fact! In times past, a huge oak chest at St Oswald’s Church, Lower Peover, was used to keep parish records, the vicars’ robes and other important documents. If a girl wanted to marry a farmer, she must be able to lift the chest lid with one arm, to prove she had enough strength to lift any of the famous Cheshire cheeses made in the area!
