Within 13 miles of Whittingham there is access to the Coast and Castles route which features unspoilt coastline, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as numerous English Heritage sites and the UNESCO world heritage site of Bamburgh Castle. Closer at hand, on the doorstep, are limitless countryside walks within Thrunton and Callaly Woods. The same is true further afield in the Northumberland National Park and Cheviot Hills, access to which is within three miles. Whittingham is also on the National Cycle Route.
